A mother stops at nothing to recover her kidnapped son.
I guess you could say I'm somewhat of a Halle Berry fan. That probably means I've seen more things with her in it that I likes vs things that I didn't like. I really didn't have much expectation for this film. I really knew nothing about it. My wife dragged me to a screening and I went to keep her company.
But, sometimes, when you have no (or low) expectations, you can be pleasantry surprised. And, I was. This is not really my genre, and just based on the subject matter of the film, I felt like I had seen this movie several times before. But, not in the way that it was done this time. Wow, what a ride. This movie barely stops moving from the time you slap your butt into the seat, right up to the end. For the most part, the pacing was effective in painting a frantic picture of a mother desperately searching for her lost child (don't worry...I didn't give anything away that's not already in the title of the movie).
Halle did a pretty darn good job of carrying this movie. She was more than believable in this role and I was almost immediately convinced that I should care what happens to her and her son. Not to say that the supporting performance weren't up to snuff...just that the entire film was constructed around a single actor carrying the story, and Halle actually pulled it off. I was pleasantly surprised.
If you're in the mood for a fast-paced thriller, give this one a try. It's not great, but I'm glad I saw it.
I give this movie 3.5 out of 5 stars.
